So what is project management?

Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to meet the requirements of the particular project. A project is a temporary endeavour undertaken to achieve a particular aim.

The Latin word projectum means, “to throw something forward.” Project Management is all about making things happen and moving forward and has existed for thousands of years. For example, the Great Pyramid of Giza 2,550 B.C, the Great Wall of China 221 B.C. – 206 B.C or the Roman Coliseum 80 A.D. all used project management techniques.

Project Management is as much a way of thinking as it is an approach that can be applied to any initiative large or small that must deliver within a certain timeframe and cost, in order to meet specific objectives.

Recognised as an essential capability for organisations to maximise value and reduce costs, Project Management has developed considerably in the past 20 years. Today Project Management is a professional discipline with a body of knowledge, a set of skills and competencies and professional certification bodies (listed at the end of this article).

The Basic Principles

There are a number of significant principles which determine success in any project. These are simple and well known principles, however they are difficult to apply and are quite frequently ignored in practice.

1. Precise Business Needs

Successful projects are business driven. This represents the ‘why’ of the project, and it is important because it provides the basis for all decision making.

2. Defined Benefits

Projects are about translating the business need into the business benefit. In addition to the business need, the ‘bottom line’ benefits must also be well defined in terms of source, timing and quantity.

3. Explicit Plans

Effective planning, allows people to work together in a co-ordinated way in order to achieve the project objectives. Effective planning is dependent on being at an appropriate level of detail and being presented in an appropriate way.

Often in a construction project, the contractor is faced with great deals of detailed computations. The data gathered and computed are vital from the beginning to the end of the project. Losing one can cause the entire project to fail, compromising everything that is connected to it. A construction accounting software to keep and analyze construction data, then, is in order.

?

Just like any other business, a construction project involves a large amount of money that needs proper accounting. Day after day, new expenses for the construction project are being created and added to the data to be accounted. Thanks to accounting software applications available today, financial matters can be properly handled. Compared with traditional accounting, which is confusing and prone to mistakes, construction accounting software eases up the accounting process but improves its proficiency.

?

Modern construction accounting software account and analyze information quickly yet precisely. A typical paper-based accounting may take weeks or even months to finish before overall cost is determined. With this technology, computations can be spontaneous and daily results are available, making it easy for accountants to wrap up in no time when asked by the clients.

E-learning is not a new phenomenon; however, its use has evolved. E-learning originally gained popularity in higher education because of its flexibility. During this phase, Learning Management Systems like Moodle, Blackboard, and WebCT were developed. This allowed flash based SCORM content to be uploaded and shared. Students, especially working adults, could take courses asynchronously from the comfort of their homes, sacrificing little in terms of managing work and school schedules.

As e-learning evolved, a second phase began to take hold within the corporate sector. This phase was marked by increased use of e-learning among corporations in order to reduce training cost and manage large scale training initiatives quickly. E-learning also helped organizations manage content and understanding through standardized curriculum and graded quizzes.

In the third phase of e-learning maturation, schools and organizations began to realize the value of e-learning to geographically isolated students. Schools realized that they were no longer restricted to enrolling local students. They slowly began to look far outside state and country borders enrolling students in every corner of the earth. This was a particularly popular idea in growing markets like Nigeria were education needs were high.

Organizations also learned that they could now offer training to telecommuters and geographically separated work teams. With telecommuting increasing in popularity, e-learning became the perfect solution to a unique and new issue.

E-learning is at the beginning of a fourth stage. The future of e-learning is customization. With off-the-shelf e-learning solutions blanketing the industry, organizations are becoming increasingly aware of the value of a custom solution that pinpoints the needs and situation of the organization. Schools use custom e-learning solutions to match existing ground content. Organizations use off-the-shelf e-learning courses combined with custom e-learning courses to effectively delivery the right learning content cost effectively. Only a select few e-learning organization’s like SilkWeb Consulting & Development www.silkwebconsulting.com have the capability and experience to develop and deliver both custom and off-the-shelf e-learning solutions to schools and businesses. For more information on SilkWeb, email info@silkwebconsulting.com

Creating a list of rules to follow is a great way to help insure your success and the much needed positive trading perspective. Put the rules on the wall next to your computer or the wall above the monitor to remind you were you on a daily basis. For those who have been in the market for years, the most used rules are over often looked because they are so well known. A list can even help the most experienced trader.

Another good idea is to keep a list of your day trade plans in your wallet so you can look them over. Keeping this list can help you avoid losses from acting impulsively by reading over before you take or place a trade.

You can really only blame yourself for trades good or bad. Taking this into account allows you to realize you are in total control on whether or not you make money in the market. This can keep you honest to your plans and not to trade impulsively.

Follow this easy to read guideline for starting a home based opportunity online and off!

1. Set times to return calls or invite people to cash gifting and stick with it. The allure of generating cash from home is powerful VERY POWERFUL but so is the thoughts of spending more time with your family or taking time off from working. Setting times for working for and sticking to it is critical.

2. Set up a your own personal cash gifting office. You can’t work your activity from your kitchen table! Well you can and I have done it BUT it does get hectic. Being successful at cash gifting really does?require a fully equipped home office in the picture if at all possible. If you have an extra room open, consider converting it into office. If you do not have an extra bedroom in your home, try setting up a partition for your privacy.

3. Be the professional.?One of the fringe benefits of generating cash gifting program pledges ?from home is having the option of working in your underware, but your customers should not be able to tell that you just woke up. Maintain normal hours and be very professional when answering your calls or dealing with customers and appointments.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a software system that handles different information about the client and customer. It is custom-made for a particular business so that transactions and information are formally gathered and collected.

The main objective of CRM software is to have the database automated. This means that everything is saved in one database and it strictly follows certain guidelines and rules that make searching and filtering simple. For example, sales representatives have a template that they can easily fill-in and save in the database. If they need to find things in the database, they can easily search for it because everything’s uniform.

Along with ease of pulling up information, the CRM can also help in creating a better relationship between the employee and the customer. Records are readily available and they can give exact information as needed. Most of the time, a CRM of a company has a system that is available for clients so they can help themselves. This creates a smoother transition and workflow.

?

The loan modification business? is a great business that can be started with minimal start up cost.

?

The business Is not costly because you dont have to keep any inventory. Your only real operating expenses could concieveably be: Rent,Phone, and Internet, and postage. This is not the ideal operation, but it is plausable that until you close a loan modification you may or may not operate this way. Right now, the loan loan modification business is? some what unregulated. There are some guidelines that are being implemented to safeguard the consumer. You as a business owner must safeguard your own interest by following the regulations that have been set. If you are operating as a non-attorney supervised modification company there?is state specific legislation that can be found In my book? “Make Six Figures Doing Loan Mods”.?

?

If you choose to operate as an attorney supervised loan modification company, there are some logistics you should be concered about when choosing your incorporation status and the arrangment between you and the modifying attorney. Will you operate out of the attorneys office, will the attorney operate out of yours? Are accepting money up front, or are you taking it on the back end?

Trainings can be a boring thing for some people. They think it’s a waste of time and they have better things to do. What they do not know is that participating in trainings is great. For an accounting employee, attending sage software training gives him a leg up against the competition.

Nevertheless, software training is essential. Some people have the natural feel for a program and can work it without training. For the rest, they need guidance to avoid mistakes and learn the system. This is for both. With proper training, the naturals can just enhance and get better while the novice can learn the basic and build a foundation to be better.

By learning the software inside and out, the employees can now determine different ways on how they can work with the system and maximize their output. Sometimes, people really want to work but are unable to because they do not know how the system can help them. If they know how the system works, they can now determine how to make things very easy for them.

Years ago in Australia I worked as a consultant trainer for a great trouble-shooter to sort out the underperforming Australian end of a major consumer electronics marketing operation. I worked with them for three years, twice a year, traveling the country, 4 states, doing their sales training.

The first trip was easy, basic techniques stuff, and it is still being taught today. What should I do second, and third and fourth time around? The things I discovered will probably work for you today.

Trick 1: Get the customer to tell you what he wants from you.

I decided to ask a customer. I rang the best consumer goods retailer in Australia; this guy is a living legend.

“How many sales reps deal with you professionally?”

“None! I’ve never met one.” was the blunt answer.

“Would you invest an hour telling a group of sales reps how they should do business with you?”

“Yes.” was his immediate answer and I visited him to set it up.

In due course he arrived and was ushered into my training room. The trainees were impressed and slightly terrified about having to meet, and listen to the great man.

He spent an hour berating them about all the mistakes sales reps make and I’m sure the list has not changed. A small sample:

Treating him like a consumer..

Total product feature focus – we’ve got an x and a y and a z and its great.

No understanding of the most basic question; “How does this guy make a buck out of selling my product?”

No interest in my business.

No idea how I set up a product range, and the position of his brand in my retail strategy.

He spent the second hour telling them how to sell to him. It was the easiest sales training session I ever “ran”.

They were a sorry, bedraggled, miserable lot when he finished, so he gave them a consolation prize in the form of the biggest single order that office had ever received. Beer all round that afternoon? You bet.
